Thomas Large 1883 -1962

Thomas Large was the youngest of 6 children of Thomas & Jane Large (ne Higginson). He had 4 brothers, Frederick (1871), George (1874), Arthur (1877) & Job (1880) and 1 sister Elizabeth (1867)

Born in Bunbury on 1st Mar 1883 he married Ada Mounfield at the age of 25 on 16th Dec 1908 and together they had a son Thomas Henry Large, born on 21st May 1906.

After they were married Thomas & Ada lived at 140 Gladstone Street, Over, Cheshire and by 1939 they were living at 218 High Street, Winsford.

Thomas was employed as Station Master & Goods Agent at The Over & Wharton Station, retiring on 31st March 1943 aged 60.

In 1939 the records also show that Ada’s Aunt May (Mounfield), widow of James Mounfield (d 1909) was living with them. May had lost her son John Courter Mounfield (Gunner – 330th Siege Bty. Royal Garrison Artillery) on 3rd Oct 1917 in the first world war at the age of 25 in Flanders, France. May was the wife of Ada’s father Thomas’s brother. By the 1950’s they had moved again to 98 Grange Lane, Winsford, Cheshire.

Ada died on 29th Oct 1958 aged 72 and Thomas then moved to live with his son Thomas at Sunny Croft, Mayo Street in Cockermouth where he lived until his death on 18th Dec 1962 aged 79.

Thomas and Ada only had the one son Thomas Henry Large and whilst an only child he did have at least 16 cousins.
